Unfortunately there are no signs in the early stages of the disease. You may not see perfectly well, nor is there any pain until the disease becomes severe.

Once you are diagnosed with diabetes you must get a thorough eye examination and every year thereafter. Your eyes should be dilated during the examinations.
Keep good control over the blood sugar levels by taking your medicines regularly and keeping to your diet and exercise schedule.
Be sure to wear sunglasses when you’re outside for any period of time. Exposure to the suns rays increases the risk of developing cataracts. Since people with diabetes are at increased risk for cataracts anyway, eye protection is even more important. Make sure that any sunglasses you buy:
